We know, we know. Tis the season for lists upon lists of Fringe shows offered up by people and groups you know only in the politest of circumstances with the hopes that maybe, just maybe, you will grace them with your patronage and attention. It's a yearly Minnesotan tradition second only to the flood of emails and requests that choke your inbox and Facebook feed during Give to the Max Day*.
*No shade meant. GTMD is one of the most important days of the year for us Non-Profs so please, please give all you can. When you can ;)
Penelope waited over 10 years for her husband, Odysseus, to return from the Trojan War; all the while dodging 108 opportunistic suitors squatting in her home. Woof. Count your blessings. You only have to wait 2 more days to see what we've created for the Penelope Workshop!
But hey. We understand that 2 days can seem like forever when your excited for something. That's why the cast and collaborators wanted to share some of the words that they think of when they think back on all the work they've done to make Penelope special.
Fangirling, Workshopping, and Multiple Narratives
This week, we decided to turn the blog over to two of our fabulous, talented, wonderful, hilarious collaborators! (Can you tell we just love, love, love them?!) You may recognize Alana from our recent production of These Are the Men at the Southern Theater in March/April (yay, ARTshare!) and Rachel lent us her talents for the workshop presentation of House Party back in November 2014.
We are so thrilled to have them back in the room playing and creating for the Penelope Workshop. Come see their work on July 24 & 25 at Savage Umbrella's SPACE.
Rehearsals for our Penelope workshop are under way and things are going so well/fun/awesome/inspiringly! We have some smart cookies in the room, bringing up issues of everything from how culture defines the ideal woman, to the visualization of internal turmoil, to the power of storytelling and Greek myths, to possession and power, to how humor works to help soothe pain and trauma, to how that one guy on a toilet got eaten by a dinosaur in the original Jurassic Park.
We’ve got more info for you in the coming weeks, but enjoy these snaps and vids from rehearsals for now!
